COUNTY FLAGS

The county seal in the center of this white flag shows a sunrise scene and symbols for what is important to Gallia County. The tractor and corn represent agriculture, and the book and glasses remind us to learn by reading. The caduceus is a medical symbol. Behind the town and power plant, the Ohio River and rugged hills represent the scenery of the Allegheny Plateau. The county was established in 1803, and was named by French settlers. "Gallia" is the Latin word for "Gaul," an ancient name for France. Many immigrants from France settled in this county.
