Tyrone K. Yates is a 3rd term Member of the Ohio House of Representatives. A Cincinnati native, Representative Yates is a 1972 graduate of Withrow High School. He is a 1978 graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a B.A. degree in History and holds the Juris Doctor degree from the University of Toledo College of Law. He has studied further at both the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard and the Harvard Law School in executive programs. While an undergraduate and graduate student, Yates served on the University of Cincinnati Board of Trustees as a Student Representative and was elected to the Governing Board of the University of Toledo College of Law. Yates holds the University of Cincinnati's Jones Prize for Oratorical Excellence. Yates was a member of Cincinnati City Council from 1990 to 1999 and served as Vice-Mayor of Cincinnati for two terms.

Representative Yates is a former Senior Warden of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc, UC honorary Sigma Sigma, The Argus Club, the American Angus Association, the UC Alumni Association and is a Life member of the Navy League of the United States.

Yates is currently writing a book on the Kennedy Administration focusing on the admission of James Meredith to the University of Mississippi in 1962.

Yates serves on the Finance and Appropriations, Ways and Means, Agriculture and Natural Resources, and Criminal Justice Committees.
