Cannon Firing at the Statehouse
Please be informed that a Civil War-era cannon will be fired from the West Plaza of the Ohio Statehouse Tuesday, July 23 , 2024.

Historical reenactors from 1st Ohio Light Artillery, Battery A will fire one of the Ohio Statehouse’s Civil War-era cannons from the West Plaza (High Street side) of Capitol Square at 7:15 p.m.

As these sounds can be startling, we wish to give advance notice to everyone working on and near Capitol Square. If you have any questions, please contact Mike Rupert at 614-728-4185.

Events in July:

Tuesday, July 23, the All-Ohio State Fair Band will perform at noon until 12:30 p.m. on the West Plaza of the Ohio Statehouse. Everyone is welcome.

Tuesday, July 23, one cannon firing at 7:15 p.m.

Wednesday, July 24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Ohioans in Space Family Day focuses on the importance of Ohio’s role in space exploration, and will include videos, art talks, story times and activities. For more details about this free event, please visit our website.
 
 
 

State Room
(COLUMBUS, OH) — Members of the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board (CSRAB) will meet Thursday, July 18, 2024 at the Ohio Statehouse in downtown Columbus. The business meeting will be held in the State Room (room #108) and will begin at 10:00 a.m. The meeting is open to the public. The meeting agenda is available upon request.



 
 
 

Half-staff flags at Ohio Statehouse
In honor of Officer Ritter's life and service, flags will be flown at half-staff until sunset of the date of his funeral.
All other public buildings and grounds throughout the state may fly the flags of the United States and the State of Ohio at half-staff at their discretion for the same time period.
 
 
 

(Columbus, OH)- The Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board will host a family-friendly event on Wednesday, July 24 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. to highlight the importance of Ohio’s role in space exploration. The Ohioans in Space Family Day will take place in the Atrium and Rotunda and is free and open to the public.
Attendees will enjoy a variety of activities:
Interactive Learning Stations: Partake in hands-on activities with collaborations from The Works, The National Veterans Memorial Museum, and the NASA Glenn Research Center’s Office of STEM Engagement.

Special Story Times: The Columbus Metropolitan Library will host space-themed story sessions at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Art Talks: Explore the connection between art and space with talks at 11 a.m. noon, and 1 p.m.

Special Exhibits: Learn about space exploration through exhibits provided by the Columbus Metropolitan Library and Motts Military Museum

The Capitol Café will be open from 8 a.m.- 3 p.m. for breakfast and lunch.

The Statehouse Museum Shop will be open from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m., and has fun space-related items to purchase!

Half-staff flags at Ohio Statehouse
In honor of the life and service of former Ohio Adjutant General Richard C. Alexander, the flags shall be flown at half-staff at the Ohio Statehouse, the Vern Riffe Center, and the Rhodes State Office Tower from sunrise to sunset on the day of his funeral, May 30, 2024. All other public buildings and grounds throughout the state may fly the flags of the United States and the State of Ohio at half-staff at their discretion for the same time period.
 
 
 

Ohio Statehouse
The Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board (CSRAB) wants you and your department to be aware that hot water may be discolored in the Ohio Statehouse and Senate Building. The situation should be resolved within a few days.

A plumbing pump was fixed. It may take 48 hours for any discoloration in the hot water to clear through the system. We thank you for your patience during this process.

As part of the Governor’s annual Wreath Laying Ceremony in honor of Memorial Day, military aircraft will conduct a flyover of downtown Columbus and the Ohio Statehouse on Thursday, May 23 between 11 a.m. and 11:10 a.m. The flyover will be conducted by the U.S. Air Force through Wright Patterson Air Force Base’s 445th Airlift Wing.

The public event will include a rifle salute at the Ohio Statehouse on the Third Street Veterans Plaza. The rifle salute is provided by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Since these sounds and the low flying aircraft can be startling, we wish to give advance notice to our Statehouse residents and neighbors on Capitol Square.
This event is part of honoring Ohio’s fallen heroes on Memorial Day weekend. The Governor’s Wreath Laying ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. on the Third Street side of the Ohio Statehouse and may be viewed live on OhioChannel.org.

In honoring Peace Officer Memorial Day and Police Week, Governor Mike DeWine has ordered the flags of the United States and the state of Ohio to be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout the state of Ohio from sunrise to sunset on May 15, 2024.
