Lisa Sobecki is a veteran of the United States Navy and mother of two. Her sons attended Toledo Public Schools, where Sobecki was an active volunteer and member of the district’s Parent Congress and Parent-Teacher Organization. The time she spent in her sons’ classrooms evolved into a desire to improve all students’ educational experiences and, in 2007, she was elected to the board of education. Five years later, she was its president and spearheading a project to transition Toledo’s public elementary schools into K-8 buildings.
In 2015, she stepped down from the school board to spend more time with her family. An economic support specialist for Job and Family Services, Sobecki was quickly drawn back into public service and elected chair of AFSCME Local 544-01. From 2019 to 2022, she represented the city of Toledo in the Ohio House of Representatives, where she was a champion for students, working families, and veterans across the state.
